Yes — nothing is pasteurised. Mona is milked by hand, the pail is chilled within the hour, and the milk is frozen before it meets the lye so the heat of the reaction never scorches it. From there the chemistry does the rest: the milk becomes part of the soap, and the bar keeps for months on a shelf. Why raw milk keeps in soap.

He drinks first. Mona gives about twenty-five litres on a good day; Terry, her calf, takes ten of them before we take anything at all. Calf first, pail second — it's the one rule on this farm that has never been up for discussion. Meet Terry.

She's the only one we milk. She shares the paddock with Terry, her calf, and with Vanilla, an orphaned heifer who isn't milked at all — her contribution to the soap is nil, her place in the herd is not.

No, and it can't be — milk is the whole point. Every product carries Mona's Jersey milk, the honey range adds honey, and the lip balm is held together with beeswax. There is no tallow and no animal fat in the soap — the oils are avocado, coconut, macadamia, castor and shea — but a milk soap is not a vegan one.

Never. Everything here began as something we made for our own skin, and that's still where every batch is tried first — on us. Mona is the only animal involved, and her part is the milk.

The chemistry is done in days; the character takes six weeks. Every bar sits on the racks until it's properly hard, which is what makes it mild, slow to wear and long-lasting. Nothing leaves the racks early. What curing actually does.

Every true soap is made with lye — there is no other way to turn oil and milk into soap. But none survives the process. The lye is consumed as the oils saponify, leaving soap and naturally occurring glycerine. By the time a bar comes off the racks, there is no lye left in it.

No. The oils are avocado, coconut, macadamia and castor, with shea butter — all printed on the wrapper, in descending order by weight. No palm oil, no plastic, no filler.

Yes. Macadamia is a tree nut, and macadamia oil is in both soaps and both scrubs — each of those carries a “contains tree nuts” line on its label. The body butter and the lip balm are made without it. If you have a nut allergy, please read the full list on each product page before you order.

The Milk range is truly unscented — nothing added for scent, no fragrance and no essential oils. What remains is the faint, clean smell of the soap itself, which fades on rinsing. The Milk & Honey range is scented only quietly: the honey lends a soft warmth and the oats keep it mild, with no added fragrance.

Six to eight weeks of daily use. Every bar is cured for six weeks until properly hard, so it wears slowly. Kept on a dish that drains between uses, it lasts longer still. How to make it last.

It's made for the body — elbows, knees, heels, arms. The skin on the face is finer and deserves a softer touch than sugar, so keep the jar below the neck. Two or three times a week is plenty for most skin; let the soap carry the everyday.

They can soften. Whipped butter softens in heat and can melt above roughly 25 °C; if it melts and re-sets, the whip settles into a denser cream and the butter itself is unchanged and fine to use. Beeswax holds the balm's shape at everyday temperatures, but a parked car in an Australian summer will defeat any balm. In the height of summer we may hold butter and balm orders for a cooler posting day, and we'll tell you if we do.

Soap on a dish that drains, out of the direct stream of the shower, and let it dry between uses. Spare bars keep best somewhere cool and dry — a linen cupboard is ideal; they'll quietly scent the shelf while they wait. Butter and balm somewhere cool and out of the sun.

It finishes curing in Spring 2026. Until then, orders are pre-orders: they ship in the order they were placed, and First Batch sets are numbered and ship first. Unopened items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery for a refund of the product price. Because soap, butter and balm are personal-care products, we can't take back anything opened or used — a hygiene rule, not a hard heart.
